New Short Premiere!

Proud to announce that my latest micro short film, Pedestrians Prohibited Blues, will premiere at the Octopus Marquee Film Festival in 2025.

Directed by myself (Kyle Kolding) and produced by Mario Iochpe, this project explores a gritty, textured vision of Los Angeles through an unconventional lens. Shot on 16mm Tri-X film with a Beaulieu R16 and an Angénieux 12–220mm zoom, the film captures fleeting moments from the city’s sidewalks, storefronts, and empty stretches of road — everyday scenes that often go unnoticed.

Embracing the grain, contrast, and mood of black-and-white celluloid, the short leans into the soul and struggle of the urban landscape. The soundtrack is as raw as the images themselves, recorded during a spontaneous street blues performance played on a battered, out-of-tune upright piano someone had abandoned nearby. A saxophonist joined in, on the condition of anonymity, adding smoky texture to the track and echoing the anonymity of the city’s daily rhythms.

Pedestrians Prohibited Blues is brief, impressionistic, and unpolished by design — a small snapshot of isolation, humanity, and the quiet complexity of Los Angeles.

More details, screening dates, and behind-the-scenes notes coming soon.
